SEXUAL ASSAULT JUSTICE INITIATIVE
The U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women recently announced the Sexual Assault Justice Initiative (SAJI), an initiative that involves the development and implementation of performance measures that look beyond conviction rates and reflect promising practices for prosecuting sexual assault. SAJI is intended to support enhanced community responses to sexual violence with an emphasis on prosecution.
In order to support the use of effective prosecution strategies and better ways of measuring success, OVW is partnering with AEquitas and up to eight communities whose prosecutors’ offices are committed to pursuing justice in these historically challenging cases. Each of the eight sites will receive funding and technical assistance to implement a set of performance measures that link to best practices and account for victims’ and other stakeholders’ perceptions of retributive, restorative, and procedural justice.
The deadline for sites to apply is October 13, 2015. For additional information including how to apply go to http://www.justice.gov/ovw/open-solicitations.
